Anai Winn Quezada is a 22 year-old Soprano studying voice at Texas State University. Anai was most recently awarded the opportunity to sing Mozart’s Padre, germani, addio! (Idomeneo) in a concert with the Texas State Orchestra in March of 2022, as well as performing the role of Handel’s Serse with Texas State Opera Theatre.
Her freshman year, she was distinguished as a semi-finalist at 2018 NATS South Texas Chapter and performed as a chorus member of Texas State Opera Theatre’s Hansel and Gretel. In 2020, she was recognized as a semi-finalist at Texoma NATS in the junior division. She was also recognized as a winner of her university’s annual Concerto Competition in 2021. During her time at Texas State Anai has been heavily involved with the opera theatre program and has performed in their Mad Scenes as Cathy from The Last 5 Years as well as Cornelia from Handel’s Cesare, Papagena from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Belinda from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas under the direction of Dr. Marc Reynolds. Her latest engagement with Texas State Opera Theatre was the pastiche production: Rewritten, where Anai sang selections from La Hija de Rappaccini by Fernando de la Mora as well as The Scarlet Letter by Lori Laitman.
In the Summer of 2019, Anai attended the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg, Austria where she performed the role of Madame Silberklang in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor. In the Spring of 2020 Anai learned the role of Noémie from Manon’s Cendrillon at Texas State University and during the fall of 2020, Anai learned the role of Ilia from Mozart’s Idomeneo.
Pursuing a degree in vocal performance, Anai is passionate about the arts and hopes to inspire and captivate her audience. Her love for classical voice has greatly influenced her attention to detail in regard to musicality, musicianship, and characterization. Anai hopes to one day follow in the footsteps of her voice professor and renowned soprano, Cheryl Parrish, by singing in operas around the globe. She also wishes to pursue jazz singing and eventually release her own compositions. Aside from opera, Anai has performed in Texas State University’s Jazz Combos as a vocalist and flutist and is a member of Texas State University choirs: Aurora Voce and University Singers.
